Here are some event tips for the early October.

Saturday Sep 30 3-7pm – Hurricane Relief On Deck

Join Bluewater Gear, Daiquiri Deck Siesta Key and Cx3 Ads for a fundraising event to aid in the relief and recovery efforts for those affected by Hurricane Irma. The Daiquiri Deck Siesta Key will be donating 25% of all proceeds during their happy hour to relief efforts. The Bluewater Gear team will have a booth set up with Florida shirts, as well as other BWG apparel for sale. 100% of the proceeds from the Florida shirts and 25% of all other apparel sales will be donated to relief efforts. Cx3 Ads is also matching all BWG proceeds. All funds raised will be donated to the United Way of the Florida Keys, as well as the local Sarasota in Defense of Animals organization that sustained significant structural damage during the storm. Come out and join us for a day of fun, food and drinks and get an awesome new shirt (or five) all for an amazing cause!

October 2 – 31, 10am-5pm – Jane Keeling, Oils Artist, Island Gallery West

Jane Keeling celebrates wildlife and people enjoying our beautiful coastal community in oil paintings for her October Featured Artist Exhibit entitled “Surf ’N Turf” at Island Gallery West. Jane is well known in the community for her charming plein air oils, her spectacular mural work, and her art demonstrations at Island Gallery West.
Jane’s exhibit will run from October 2—31 at Island Gallery West, located at 5368 Gulf Dr., Holmes beach, FL, Trolley Stop 15 on Anna Maria Island.

October 3 – Nov 14 – Reading and Discussion Program on Claudia Rankine’s Citizen: An American Lyric

Join us at Selby Public Library for a six-week reading and discussion program funded by the Florida Humanities Council featuring Claudia Rankine’s powerful work Citizen: An American Lyric. Participants will read the book over the course of the program, meeting Tuesdays at 6 p.m. for six weeks at Selby for discussion led by New College Professor Sarah Osment. Explore Rankine’s text while sharing personal experiences in a safe, open environment. Light refreshments will be provided. Space is limited and registration is required. Saturday October 7 10am-5pm – ReptiDay Sarasota Reptile & Exotic Animal Expo

ReptiDay Sarasota is a one-day reptile event featuring vendors offering reptile pets, supplies, feeders, cages, and merchandise as well as live animal seminars and frequent free raffles for coveted prizes. Exciting, educational, family-oriented fun for everyone!

Sunday October 8 3-8pm – Arlington Park Porchfest 2017

Welcome to the Second Annual Porchfest. Join the fun as 40 bands perform on neighborhood front porches and driveways. A free grass roots music festival for everyone to share. Ride your bikes, take your carts, push your strollers, bring your dogs, everyone welcome. Performances at houses between Hawthorne and Datura, East and Shade in the Arlington Park neighborhood. Food tents, T-shirts, family friendly.
